About the house

Tradescant House, named after John Tradescant (1608-62), was first established and newly built in 1848 by William Butterfield. The very first use of this building was the accommodation for the students at St Augustine’s Missionary College (1848–1947), after 29 years since, the King’s School acquired the whole St. Augustine site, and 1976 was the same year when Tradescant House opened as a magnificent boy’s boarding house.

Set in the beautiful surroundings of the St Augustine's Abbey and the ruins which are a National Heritage site, the house boasts a beautiful view of Dovecote Lawn as well as a beautiful exterior which makes it unique. The boys in the house have a real mix of talents from sport and academia to the arts and music. Not only are they talented, but the boys come from a range of backgrounds which really helps the house feel like a community and a family that anyone can be a part of.
